Water is a recurrent theme in our cultural events, as you would expect when you look at the history of our islands. We weave our festivals in with the elements, naturally, in our Zeeland-on-Sea.
Concert at Sea
The Concert at Sea festival on the Brouwersdam started life as a modest event with the Zeeland pop group Bløf. It just grew and now ten thousand people come to Zeeland for two days of music and Fun-on-Sea. Connected with the beach and water around them, they can enjoy the view over the site and the sea from the big wheel. When you come and sit on the dike, the sounds will wash over your ears, the salty air on your lips, the sea breeze on your face, the sun setting on your horizon. Reason enough for the artists to come and play here year after year, on their bit of land in the sea.Zeeland Nazomerfestival
The Zeeland Late Summer Festival is a multi-day cultural festival that brings together theatre, music and performing arts at a unique location in Zeeland. The focus is on an impressive location performance, framed by a varied programme of performances, music and activities that highlight the stories and places of the region. The festival offers a unique experience in which art and landscape come together.Film by the sea
In the Film by the Sea festival in Vlissingen, you can immerse yourself away in film and literature, lapping up the stream of well-known actors and authors. They’ll be strolling along the boulevard, just like you: together you’ll adore the special ambience of a festival in a harbour town. And when you’ve seen enough celluloid, get some sand between those toes, and some sea vistas in those eyes of yours.
Jazz in Zeeland
Zeeland is a land of opposites, and sometimes the fusion is phenomenal. Try ZeelandJazz!, an annual event which in 2016 merged the Scheldejazz Terneuzen and Jazzfestival Middelburg into one cool, intimate event. Good for music lovers, fantastic for jazz aficionados.You’ll find more special jazz musicians on the stage of Zeeland at the annual Jazz by the Sea in Domburg.
Vestrock
Vestrock – think Fortrock – is literally held on the ramparts of the fortress of Hulst. What a way to combine the misty history of the place with the musical vapours of the national and international stars at the festival! A perfect match of culture and an eclectic vibe, the Festival of Zeeland-Flanders. Artists converge here every October from far and wide, and nearby, to delight in classical music. Its reputation has grown over nigh on three decades, 28 years to be precise, and it is now a widely-recognised event on the West European classical music agenda.
