Dog-friendly beach

A day at the seaside? Feel free to bring your loyal four-legged friend along. Dogs are allowed on many beaches in Zeeland. For example, on Schouwen-Duiveland there is a dog-friendly beach on the southern side of the Brouwersdam. The beach at Westenschouwen in Burgh-Haamstede is another one which is great for dog walking. At Westenschouwen you’ll find De Punt beach: a designated off-leash area for dogs. On Noord-Beveland, Banjaardstrand is a great place for you and your dog. During a walk, you’ll have a beautiful view of the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier. From 1 April to 1 October, dogs must be kept on a leash.
On Walcheren, you’ll find several dog-friendly beaches, such as this beach at Oostkapelle and Noordzeestrand in Zoutelande. In addition, dogs are welcome on the beach in Vrouwenpolder and on several beaches in Vlissingen. In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the beach at Cadzand and Groede Bad are great places for a day out with your dog.
At every beach, make sure to check the information signs; they indicate where dogs are allowed on the beach and at what times they may be off leash. Outside these times, it is mandatory to keep your dog on a leash. Stricter rules often apply during the high season.
Of course, after an enervating walk with your four-footed companion on the beach, you might want to catch your breath in one of Zeeland’s many beach pavilions, perhaps with a mug of hot chocolate and a ‘bolus’, Zeeland’s famous pastry. Most beach pavilions provide a warm welcome for dogs. Often, you’ll find a bowl of water just waiting for the dog when you arrive. Just make sure your dog is on the lead and he stays well-behaved!
